Six years since the outbreak of war in Syria, over five million Syrians have fled to other countries as refugees from the violence. Two years ago, an escalation in the conflict drove over 10,000 refugees to an Iraqi camp in Iraqi Kurdistan, over half of them children. Unable to return home, these refugees now call this settlement their permanent home. While international aid organizations are taking care of the basic needs of the residents, one need isn’t being met: education for the young children living at Camp Kawergosk.
“These children are losing their childhood to displacement … we must ensure that they don’t lose their adulthood because of lack of education.” – UNHCR
Being a refugee shouldn’t strip you of your right to a quality education. That’s why GreaterGood.org is partnering with the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) and the JCC (Joint Crisis Coordination Center) to hire a full-time Kindergarten teacher for the children of Camp Kawergosk.
You can help! For just $16 a day, you can ensure the young children of this refugee camp get the education they deserve.
