Girlie is a 13 year-old girl living in Digos City in the Philippines. She lost her mother due to illness when she was young and her father is illiterate and unable to provide for their large family. She was sent along with her sister, Leah, to the Haven of Hope Orphanage. She dreams of one day becoming a teacher so she can share her love of learning with others in her community. Donors like you helped Girlie finish 8th grade, and now she needs your help to finish secondary school at Holy Cross Academy!

One common barrier to opportunities that Filipino young women face is getting pregnant at far too young of an age. Early childbearing forces young women—particularly those from lower socioeconomic status—to drop out of school to raise their child. In the Philippines, private school education is the best option for girls to reach their fullest potential.
Thanks to your support, the eight girls living in the Haven of Hope Orphanage have been given an opportunity to attend private school. We are happy to report that among the eight girls living in the Transition House, not one has become pregnant! These girls are grateful to have role models in their life that can help them make responsible decisions.
