Urgent: Help California Wildfire Victims
Tens of thousands of people have evacuated their homes to escape the latest fires raging in California.
California has had an unusually active fire season to date, and the worst part of fire season is still ahead. Over 14,000 firefighters are battling 30 significant fires just as mid-August. The destruction and threat to life and livelihoods is huge and sobering. The Carr Fire has burned more than 177,000 acres, claiming 8 lives and destroying 1,599 structures, including 1,077 homes. Another 500 structures are still in danger from this fire alone, and the loss to wildlife is not known. Meanwhile, the Mendocino Complex Fire has become the largest wildfire in state history, burning more than 304,000 acres.
